NEKOMATA 1.0.0 Release Notes


NEKOMATA version 1.0.0 has been released!

In addition to various visual and functional bug fixes, the following major changes were made to the game since the previous Jam version:

  • Reworked Rewind Mechanic
    • Previously, rewinding was something you did by just pressing the rewind button, without having any control over where you landed after rewinding. Now, PURR stops rewinding the moment you let go of the rewind button. This means that rewinds are something you can do it short bursts, allowing you to control where you land after rewinding.
    • Rewind cooldown time has been reduced to about 1 second.
  • Complete UI overhaul
    • Redesigned the entire UI system.
    • Added a new settings menu.
    • Added a new music room menu where you can listen to the game's soundtrack.
    • Added screen borders.
    • Added reworked icons and animations for everything in the game's main HUD.
  • Boss updates
    • Reworked every boss fight.
    • Each boss fight is composed of 4 distinct phases now.
    • Each boss phase has its own timed projectile pattern.
    • Bosses have a single HP bar now.
    • Added a new Plague Rat boss fight and a new Cheese Forge boss fight.
  • New rewind effects
    • In addition to the previous "Expand" effect that caused nearby projectiles to increase their size when a rewind was performed near cheddar cheese, projectiles can now home towards P.U.R.R. when the player is near gouda cheese.
    • The Cheese Forge boss can switch between different rewind effects, and features a new secret rewind effect in its last phase.
  • Complete VFX overhaul
    • P.U.R.R. has visible jet trails now.
    • Each rewind effect is associated with a single color. Projectiles that have been affected by the rewind shockwave now have a visible aura in this same color, and the same aura is applied to the radioactive cheese that cause these rewind effects.
    • P.U.R.R.'s ghost VFX has been reworked to fit the changes made to the rewind mechanic.
    • Reworked the rewind shockwave VFX to invert the screen's colors. The shockwave's width now depends on the amount of time the rewind button is held.
    • Lots of new VFX have been added to projectiles, bosses, stage events, and more.
  • Music sync system
    • Some enemies, projectile emitters, and boss fights are completely synchronized with the game's music.
  • Added new stage backgrounds
  • Added a new ending cutscene
  • Added a new lives system and game over screen
  • Added a new radio catbot companion that follows P.U.R.R. around in-game
  • Added support for performing a rewind in the title screen
  • Added gamepad and input remapping support
  • Added a new skippable tutorial section to stage 1
  •  Added new enemies and boss minions
  • Increased P.U.R.R.'s movement speed
  • Added new beams, projectiles, and other hazards
